Plot Summary
Vetri is the titular character in the film Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, and is played by Vijay. Vetri is a former police officer whose past is more present than he may like. The film’s central focus relies on the meeting of the two opposing worlds, one that is focused on serving the people and the other that is focused on control.
These two opposing worlds have met before. Many years after the first meeting, rather let’s say the first meeting was the start, this film uses a child’s silent fear, to open the existing wounds, and as a stimulus to pull Vetri back into a conflict that is much larger than personal. His opponent in this battle is Bobby Deol’s character John Himler, aka Amrish Poojari, who represents the surface control of systemic character that in reality is public.
Mamitha Baiju is Vijayalakshmi (Viji), Pooja Hegde is Kayal, and Priyamani is Sheela Rani. The story is framed to battle between control and accountability, and Vetri is framed to be the reluctant and yet the inevitable bearer of the flag.

Jana Nayagan is a potential farewell film and an interesting star project. This film contains an interesting balance of an ambitious genre framework and grounded political thinking. H. Vinoth is a precise, less-is-more type of a director.
I think, in this project, he is possibly using science fiction to speak about ideology and the control of institutional power. The level of thought and planning is greater than what is typically seen in a mass market film. The delays in certification were frustrating for the production, but they were likely to create more interest.
